CB3 and Steve Paine discuss advantages and disadvantages of bringing a small block to Allstar Weekend

It was a weekend that the Brachmann Racing team set out to make a point to both themselves and the Dirtcar community. We have our small blocks, and we will use them!

Two weeks ago after a feature race at the Merrittville Speedway, the team was left scratching their heads as to why thier 358 modified seems to "go away" as the races go on, unlike last year where CB3 and the team seemed to always be in the hunt for wins, but never in the right place at the right time. Well, they went back to the drawing board, the one they drew at this time last year, put all the pieces back to exactly where they were, and for a "test weekend" their grade is an A.

After a friday night rainout at the Ransomville Speedway, the team took the night to set the car for the Cayuga County Fair Speedway and Dirtcars Allstar 100 sunday. Saturday, they loaded up their second small block and headed to the Thorold Ontario speedplant at Merrittville and were fast right out of the box. "The car felt good, better than its felt all year" claimed Chad in a conversation at Cayuga County sunday afternoon. The team would go on to win their heat, start in the front row of the feature, and lead 39 laps of the 50 lap feature, before a pass by Larry Lampman Jr in lap traffic would eventually lead to a second place finish.

Sunday at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway, some would say that the team brough a knife to a gun fight, but this small block team had a plan.....and it almost worked. With the plan to draw poor, let the track burn out and hopefully time well in their heat with the small block, it seemed as though the stars were not only in the pits, but aligned perfectly for the evening. Chad would draw the 5th starting position and for the first few laps looked good on the start. Moving up to 4th after passing Jeff Brownell, everyone was asking the question, could the small block be the ticket needed to get around the speedway the fastest. Soon after, Chad was losing compression in the engine and after fading to 10th place, decided to pull the car in and leave in one piece rather than taking a chance on a motor that may not have been there for him. All in all, putting a 358 into a 58 car big block field is an accomplishment to driving in itself, and a great finish to what was definately needed this past weekend.
