Champion Brachmann Defies the Odds
2008 Merrittville Speedway 358 Modified Track Champion
If your a fan of local stock car racing and your looking for a story, you need not look any further. Chad Brachmann, also known as CB3 has taken home his first ever 358 Modified track championship, and did so with circumstances that many would wager against, should they have had the opportunity.
Chad would pull into the Thorold oval with a mere 10 point lead over fellow competitor Scott Wood, and just 14 points ahead of the 19 time track former track champion Pete Bicknell, who is also the co-owner of the speedway with his partner Randy Williamson. Chad would start 8th in his heat and rocket the Original Pizza Logs number 3 to the second position by the end of his 8 lap heat and thus would start 4th for the 50 lap feature later in the night. Wood and Bicknell would start their heat 1st and 2nd respectively and finish the same way, leaving them to start the feature in positions 3rd and 6th. In that 50 lap feature, Chad drove his high line around the speedway and managed to put himself into 2nd position and reeling in leader Derek Lemyre when Wood came knocking on lap 28. Chad would manage to dodge several lap cars and on lap 42 when Wood pulled up beside him, Chad would let him go, tuck in behind, and the start of his first ever 358 Modified track championship would begin. Chad finished 3rd and only gave up 4 points to Wood, leaving him the point leader and champion by 6.
As for the odds defied, over the course of the season, Chad would maintain the points lead for every week of the year, without winning a single race. He bested a 19 time former track champion that also prepares this very same track each and every week and has done so in a manner that lets every car compete each and every week and a chance to win. Chad was the highest finishing local regular driver in both the 358 Modified and Advance Auto Parts Big Block series races at the track as well as having 5 second place finishes and 3 third place finishes.
This Merrittville track champion is not taking his title lightly, and plans on representing the speedway and all its fans when he takes on the 358 Modified Super Dirtcar Series this post season, and plans on showing the rest of the DIRT world just how tough that little track in the west really is.
