A Nifty 50 for Brachmann at Humberstone

It was in the trailer of the Original Pizza Logs racing team, late saturday night that CB3, his brother Corey and father Mike sat and scratched their heads after a disappointing 14th place finish the night before at the Ransomville Speedway, and having just loaded up a very muddy number 3 race car, that finished 2nd for the fourth time this season at the Merrittville Speedway, following a rain shortened 33 lap feature. On which many would say, Chris Steele literally stole.

With a trip to the New Humberstone Speedway imminent on sunday afternoon, knowing that racing was going to be in tight quarters, having a shared points lead for the Lucas Oil Shootout, and two very different race cars, the crew faced a very tough question. Which one to bring? After much deliberation, they decided to take a chance and load up the regular friday night car, hope that they could dial it in to the Port Colborne oval, and possibly adjust some wrenching done on friday night that left them wondering. Not only did they make a large amount of adjustments, but they also lead a large number of laps, including the most important of them all. The last one!

After just sneaking into a redraw position with a last lap pass of fellow competitor Boyd McTavish in his heat, Chad was the second last to draw on the front stretch for his feature starting position. With only two positions to draw, either pole, or the third starting position, he drew the pole. CB3 would lead 48 of the 50 circuits and drove a low line out of turns 1 and 2 that would see him pull away from competitors almost each and every time. A restart on lap 15 that had Fred Carleton remove the lead from Chad the previous lap, saw Fred choose to take the outside lane and leave the inside for CB3. 3 laps of door to door racing would eventually see Chad put distance between himself and the 96 car and go on to win the 3rd round of the shootout. When asked after the race by Chad, why he chose the top side, Freddy replied " I didnt want to give you the bottom, but my car just wouldn't stick down there".

Congratulations to the whole team for a great effort and a job well done! This week will see a week off on friday night from the Ransomville Speedway, and another attempt at victory lane saturday at Merrittville. Come on out and show your support, and hopefully we'll see you in victory lane.
