CB3 singing Oh Canada for Starters
Chad Brachmann is usually a man of many words, but these past few weeks, he has let his car do all the talking. Especially on the other side of the border.
Two weeks ago the Brachmann racing crew unloaded 2 cars to test and tune at the Merrittville Speedway and found that one of them came out of the box, near perfect. CB3 worked his Original Pizza Logs, Honest Abes 358 modified to fast time at the Thorold speedplant, to which he will have the pole position for this saturdays' season opener. When asked what he thought about the car, Chad replied " we just came back with where we left off last year, and it worked".
Last weekend, an appearance at local Ransomville Speedway for their edition of test and tune saw the 3B finish in the 5th position after time trials, leaveing only a small bit of work for the crew and driver for their opening night May 2nd. The following night, back at the Thorold oval, Chad grasped some victory from the jaws of defeat when he started the 358 Modified Super Dirtcar Series in the 13th position and worked what seemed to be a burnt track to finish 3rd. Chad stuck to his lines, using the bottom of turns 3 and 4 and the high side of 1 and 2 to keep momentum throughout his circuits. He found himself chasing only 2 at the end, turns out that they were Danny O'Brien and Dale Planck, both of which are no strangers to 358 small block racing. After being asked about how he felt when he was put a lap down by the leader around lap 65, Chad replied " when I saw the car go by I thought, I hope that's not the leader". CB3 worked hard for his 3rd place finish, having to hold off the charges of a 19 time track champion in Pete Bicknell and even had to go as far as closing the door on Mr Small Block in the late laps of the race, but did see some distance once Todd Burley emerged from 5th to challenge Bicknell.
Post race tech inspection saw Planck handed a $1,000 fine for an "altered carb" and Danny O Brien missing a few bowls of wheaties and weighing in 24 lbs shy of the 2400 mark. He was voluntold to give back half his money, and half his points. This infraction now sees Chad sitting in 2nd in 358 SDS points with 90, chasing only Planck who has 10 more. Race 2 of the series goes August 1st at Ransomville for the Alex Friesen Summer Nationals.
Its back to the grind this weekend, with opening nights at both the Big R and Merrittville, so come on out and support CB3, as he searches for his first 358 track championships, and keep checking back for more updates.
